Podcast updates: what to expect this summer!
After an amazing one-month coaching experience with Violeta, I did something that up until last month was just “a one-day… um…maybe” thought in my head.
Within only a week of deciding that I wanted to start a podcast, I advertised my call for guests on multiple platforms including Medium, a few of the Facebook groups I’m a member of, and the Dash of Social newsletter.
And the amount of responses I got were extremely flattering. Flattering enough that my partner had a stern but loving chat with me, once the emails from potential guests started to show up in my inbox.
He was worried about my side-project interfering with paid, client projects…and um…fair enough that’s a totally valid concern. Because I don’t have a team, therefore every aspect of my business I do 100% by myself.
And then I thought it over a bit and realized every podcast I admire is either produced by entire teams, or by entrepreneurs who are lucky enough to have a significant other who edits audio professionally.
That’s exactly why I decided the best approach was to do things my way, and start with just one season, with ten episode maximum.
So…what’s the podcast about?
Just in case you have’t read my Medium-based, call for guests article here’s a summarized version of what the podcast is about:
People Behind the Business is a podcast that encourages small business owners who rely on the web for income, community, and support to take a more personal, genuine approach to how they talk about their business. Its purpose and structure is simple: it’s a friendly, casual environment which allows business owners to tell the story behind their business, and share what an average day is like for them.
It’s based on the idea that people can find out the resume version of the businesses they purchase products and services from anytime, but nothing is more impactful than a face, a name, and a personality customers can relate to.
The goal of this podcast is to make small business owners with small teams and huge ambitions feel a little less alone in their journey.
Because…the reality is that everybody’s story of how they got started, what has been toughest for them and what works best is totally different.
The guests that I bring on my show talk about “real” issues and questions that small business owners ask themselves everyday.
However, the questions I ask are one big giant attempt to make them less like overnight success stories, and more like “regular” people with relatable triumphs, ambitions, and problems.
What can you expect if you tune in to season one?
Season 1 features both product and service focused, small business owners based in 5 different countries.
And their reasons for starting their own businesses vary, from an eye-opening experience of witnessing a small child being sold like cattle in a marketplace, to a chronic illness diagnosis.
Thus far I have 9 out of the ten episodes confirmed. Here’s the line-up of guests for this season:
The only reason why I omitted episode 10 is that I don’t actually know what it will cover. I just know that it will be a solo episode.
FYI: All episodes will be released once a week, throughout the month of June.
What if you want to be a guest..?
Unfortunately, I’m no longer accepting guests for the debut season.
However, if you want to be part of season 2, I’ll start recording episodes after my podcast launch. So the best time to pitch an appearance is early June.
And step one of doing that involves filling out the podcast guest questionnaire.
And if you want to keep up to date with new episodes and podcast-affiliated news…?
There’s a few ways of doing that…actually.
- Sign up for the podcast newsletter (landing page will only be live until the launch of the first episode and then it will be an entirely new landing page)
- Follow me on twitter @rosiemay_r
- Follow me…right here, on Medium. Show notes will show up not only on Anchor FM, Itunes, and various other popular podcast applications, but will also show up on my Medium page as well.
I’m so proud of the progress I’ve made on making this podcast more than just a dream, and I hope to count you in as a listener when it’s released.
Because this is my very first season, every little share helps…so hit the “ hand clap” button on Medium, share this article on social media, and spread the word to every single small business owner friend that you know.
And thanks so much to everyone who made this project a possibility.
